The US House of Representatives has voted to ban tiktok.
If you don’t already know, being a crypto coach on tiktok is challenging. Cryptocurrency is illegal in China. And, promoting cryptocurrency on TicTok can get you banned. I’ve received a number of community guidelines violations for promoting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. But while I don’t agree with the community guidelines that buying Bitcoin is illegal or that buying cryptocurrency is a fraudulent activity, I do agree with tiktok’s right to exist, free from government overreach. Tiktok may embrace the laws and the values of the People’s Republic of China, nevertheless, as a private company they have the right to do so, to embrace whatever laws and values, rules and guidelines that they deem fit for the platform.
The first amendment is an important right in the United States. The first amendment gives me the ability to promote whatever beliefs and values that I may have. And the government cannot censor my speech. So if I believe that cryptocurrency is the future of finance, which in fact I do believe that blockchain is going to play a significant role in the future of finance, I have the right to promote this belief. However, that doesn’t give me the absolute right to promote it on tiktok.
