The debt ceiling suspension has been passed by the US House of Representatives, but it is absolutely outrageous that we need to reach this brink of disaster and chaos every time to get anything done. The fact that 117 representatives voted for a US debt default is wild! 71 hardline Republicans and 46 hardline Democrats voted for a total economic meltdown; a doomsday event with disastrous consequences.
We have too many hard-liners in Congress who prioritize their own political gain over the well-being of citizens. They create an impossible gridlock for no reason other than political moves.
This 2-year non-defense related spending freeze is a huge compromise. But, 117 voted no.
Politicians need to put the healing of the nation above personal differences and make sure this never happens again. If we don’t, the United States — and the world — will face tremendous economic upheaval.
