Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey team up against Apple. Damus is a revolutionary new mobile app that enables users to tip one another in Bitcoin using the Lightning Network! Apple issued an ultimatum to remove the Bitcoin tipping feature or face removal from the Apple store. Dorsey took to Twitter to highlight that tips were a way of rewarding users, providing feedback and encouraging content creators—not a digital purchase.
In 2021, the game Fornite was banned from the Apple store, and Epic Games sued Apple. In 2022, a federal judge sided with Epic. Apple has to allow non-Apple payment options directly within Apple apps. But, the judge also ruled that Apple was not operating an illegal monopoly. So, Apple can continue its unfair practices and charge a 30% commission on in-app purchases.
