Is your bank underwater? Currently, there is a significant threat to the US banking system.
In a recent academic study published in the Social Science Research Network, economists estimate that US banks have lost $2 trillion dollars in the value of the assets on their books due to the rapid rise in interest rates. They estimate that 190 banks are at risk. Simple put, the market value of the bank’s assets are well below the book value (or what they paid for them). And, this puts the bank at risk of becoming insolvent.
Meanwhile, yesterday, the Fed raised interest rates again by a quarter point.
The fragility and the financial instability of the U.S. banking system should not be taken lightly. This is one of the reasons why I invest in Bitcoin, Ethereum and other digital assets.
